THE SHOW
Chicago is a sharp-edged tale of murder, exploitation, and treachery that features a dazzling score that sparkled in the original production, some immortal choreography by Bob Fosse. Set in the roaring twenties, this is the story of chorus girl Roxie Hart, who shoots her unfaithful lover. Landing in jail, Roxie meets Velma Kelly, another chorus gig and murderess, currently enjoying media attention and legal manipulation care of her attorney, Billy Flynn, king of the old “Razzle Dazzle.” Soon enough, Flynn takes Roxie’s case as well, and Velma finds herself old news — Roxie is now the most famous murderess in town, on her way to getting out and becoming a star. The two go through a series of attempts at getting what they both want: freedom and fame. Chicago was the hit of the 1997 Broadway season and winner of six Tony awards including best revival. It features songs such as “All That Jazz,” “Razzle Dazzle,” “Mr. Cellophane,” and “Class.”
